I made a quick, delicious breakfast this morning using the two sauces from my last post. I spiralized the daikon, ( I paid $.29/lb for the daikon! ) tossed it with the Sesame Mint Chutney and some finely minced ginger and topped it off with the All Purpose Moroccan Sauce, toasted sesame seeds and a bit of soy sauce.
To all of you who celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
I am excited about the new year. Operation Booty Shrink will be in full force and I will be posting a lot recipes that maximize flavor for minimal cost and calories.

Yum, sometimes I crave the savory for breakfast! Happy Holidays to you too!
ReplyDeletethanks for listing the price, it helps to know what is a good price if i EVER see it in stores! i love maximum flavor/low calorie dishes:)
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to you too!!!
ReplyDeleteDD... that's a super low price. it was in the reduced produce bin... but it keeps forever. I bought a bunch almost two weeks ago. The cheapest I saw it before that was .79/lb at the ethnic grocery store and my favorite "cheap" grocer store. At other stores it's often 2.99/lb!
ReplyDeletei am hoping to get a spirilizer. i like spiralized daikon too. happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! I am glad to see some cheap raw food. Yum!
ReplyDeleteWhat you had for Christmas sounds incredible!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes find it a bit hard to believe that you spend $1 on your own food per day (you're 3 people, right?).
I make large pot fulls of stew that last me for 6-7 days, which comes to about 60 cents per day, plus some very basic additions. Due to a job loss, my diet has been extra frugal compared to before.
I want to figure out how you do it...well, I'll keep following your recipes and advice.
Anonymous, I don't eat for $1 a day.. that would be impossible ( to get the variety that I do ).. I would say that I am feeding 1 1/2 people on 3.33 a day and sometimes only 1. My 19 year old doesn't live with me and probably eats around 1-2 meals a week here. My younger son lives with me part time.
ReplyDeleteIf I were feeding the three of us on $3.33 a day, we'd be eating soup ever meal cabbage as veggies pretty much. That would be very difficult.
What you don't see on this blog ( but you will see on my facebook and twitter) is what I eat daily. Many times for me, I am eating soup in one form meal after meal!
I've been having less "breakfast" type foods lately in the morning also - and this looks great! I've tried daikon a time or two... and have never had it in large quantities. I look forward to experimenting... :)
